The theme of this book is that human beings are better off when they add an “e” to human and become humane. To be humane is to avoid being cruel to others, and to act in ways that benefit not only ourselves but other people too.
The book is offered as a Christmas present to religious and non-religious persons, with a belief that all people can appreciate: “Divinity becoming human” is an idea that could spur us toward better conduct if we sought the divine within ourselves. Our scientific expertise has given us god-like powers. If we join this power to the emotional talent of compassion and empathy, we will be virtuous in the old sense of “skillful at living”. We will save ourselves and our planet.
